Meet Police Chief, Alfred C. Ortiz
The Ruidoso Downs Police Department is led by Police Chief, Alfred "Al" Ortiz. His responsibilities include the administration of the
department which encompasses the Police, Communications, and Animal Control Departments. He was appointed by Mayor Bob Miller and
the City Council and sworn into office on October 3, 2006. Chief Al Ortiz comes to us from the City of Premont, Texas
(pop. ~ 6,500). He has 28 years of law enforcement experience working as a Texas State Trooper, probation officer,
law enforcement instructor, and Police Chief for both the El Paso and Corpus Christi School Districts and the City of
Premont. Mr. Ortiz holds a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Education, and Associates Degrees in both Criminal Justice and
Education. He grew up in El Paso, Texas and graduated from Irvin High School. If you have any questions or problems
