The City of Ruidoso Downs

Ruidoso Downs Fire Department proudly protects 3000 people living in an area of 5 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that primarily protects a residential area located in the urban interface . Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. The department is structured as an independent department of the city. The department is led into action by the Battalion Fire Chief who is a career member of the department. We “mutual-aid” the Ruidoso Fire Department, Glencoe Fire Department and the Mescalero Apache Tribe Fire Department. We also assist the New Mexico State Forestry and the U.S Forest Service. The department has 23 Volunteer Professionals and 3 paid personnel.

The City of Ruidoso Downs Emergency Services as of June 3rd 2003 have combined it's efforts. The Fire Department and the Police Department have become a Department of Public Safety. The Fire Department is planning to break ground in the spring of 2005 for our second main station. With in 5 years the fire department will be fully staffed 24/7 with minimum of 4 per shift, at this time the departments will seperate.
