Ruidoso Downs Fire Department proudly protects approximately 3000 people living in an area of 5 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that primarily protects a residential area located in the urban interface. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. The department is structured as an independent department of the city. We “mutual-aid” the Ruidoso Fire Department, Glencoe Fire Department and the Mescalero Apache Tribe Fire Department. We also assist the New Mexico State Forestry and the U.S Forest Service. The department has 10 Volunteer Professionals, and 1 Full-Time paid employee.
